2025 Camp Oz Day 1 | “Camp Oz Kick Off”

- Updates from Camp

Welcome to 2025 Camp Oz! After over 6 months of planning and anticipation, we are finally here and so excited to see the plan in action for the 42nd year of the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota Camp Oz. This year, we can report:

  • 84 Campers in 11 Cabins
  • 54 Returning and 30 Brand New Campers
  • Campers from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin
  • 1 Medical Director, 14 Camp Nurses, 4 Mental Health Providers and 6 Pharmacists
  • 40 YMCA Camp St. Croix Staff
  • 10-12 Daily Volunteers

A quick and efficient check-in helped get the day started out in a positive direction for all. Lunch promptly began after the campers got settled into their cabins to meet their cabinmates, followed by some time for campers to get to know new friends and reconnect with fellow campers from past years.

Jumping right into action on day one, the campers were busy with a day full of activities like archery and bouldering. Others kept it moving while playing basketball, 9-square, gaga ball, and lightning. Even a strategic game of chess was enjoyed in the good old outdoors!

With this action-packed afternoon, everyone came to dinner with quite the appetite to devour lasagna roll ups, breadsticks, and broccoli- not to mention the infamous salad bar. The fun started right back up when campers left the dining hall for an All-Camp game of Capture the Flag. We saw some competitive sides come out, faces painted with team colors, as campers set out to capture opposing pink and blue flags. Ultimately, the best round of the game came down to Campers vs. Staff which ended with a W for the campers!

Winding down the night, campers gathered around the flagpole to be entertained by skits and songs performed by camp staff. Then, everyone set out to cabins with tired eyes and a snack before bed. All will sleep good tonight!

Camp Oz Day 1 is in the books and we’re looking forward to more fun through the week!

Be sure to check back in tomorrow!
