Shining Stars

Celebrating youth with epilepsy — for exactly who they are.

Every child shines in their own way — and for kids with epilepsy, that light is something worth celebrating. The Shining Stars program brings together children and teens (ages 17 and under) from across Minnesota to connect, build confidence, and feel seen in a community that understands.

Shining Stars receive special invitations to events throughout the year, opportunities to raise awareness, and a chance to be part of something bigger, reminding them that epilepsy is just one part of who they are.

What It’s All About

The Shining Stars program helps young people with epilepsy:

  • Feel less alone by connecting with other kids who “get it”
  • Build confidence and celebrate what makes them unique
  • Learn to lead by raising awareness in their schools and communities

Epilepsy can sometimes make kids feel different or isolated — but Shining Stars helps them see they’re not alone, and they’re more than enough just as they are.

Ways to Shine in Your Community

There are lots of fun and meaningful ways for Shining Stars to raise epilepsy awareness:

  • Give a short presentation about your journey at school
  • Share your story in your local or school newspaper
  • Host a DIY fundraiser or awareness activity
  • Ask EFMN to provide a free seizure training for your school
  • Request a classroom kit with fun and educational activities
  • Join us at the United in Epilepsy Regional Walks
  • Lead a clothing drive in your school or neighborhood
  • “Speak Up” during National Epilepsy Awareness Month

You don’t have to do it all — just choose the way that feels right for you.

Thriving with Epilepsy

Meet Noah

The Necastro family’s epilepsy journey began in 2019 when Noah was eight years old. They immediately learned of our programs and events from their neurologist, and it quickly became a journey filled with support and education.
