Children with seizures bring this program right into classrooms, helping peers and school staff understand seizures and reducing bullying. In 2012, over 5,300 students and school personnel received training.
Consumers and professionals gain access to experts in the field of epilepsy twice annually at Midwest Seizure Smart Conferences in the Twin Cities and Duluth. In 2012, over 500 individuals participated in conferences and workshops.
All children are special, but children with epilepsy are Shining Stars! This program connects with youth from across MN and ND with other families living with epilepsy and encourages them to "reach for the stars." In 2012, there were 299 Shining Stars.
Need support? Connect groups (serving adults, parents, young adults) occur on a monthly basis. Please see the calendar for region and programs. In 2012, over 500 participated in Connect groups. Programs for social connections are available for youth, teens, young adults, adults and families.
Connections are provided to link people to community resources by identifying and delivering information to meet their needs. In 2012, 897 formal referrals were completed and many others served.
The Creative Arts Program raises epilepsy awareness through creative expression & showcases the talents of people living wtih seizures. In 2012, over 30 artists participated with countless numbers enjoying their art!
This program brings epilepsy awareness and education to every corner of MN and eastern ND, giving access to resources to rural areas and supporting people in the community with seizures. In 2012, the following communities were provided resources to be "seizure smart" - Fairmont, Breckenridge/Wahpeton, Morris and Silver Bay/North Shore.
The goal of EFMN advocacy efforts is to end stigma and discrimination and to empower people affected by seizures to be their best advocate. In 2013, over 80 individuals participated in EFMN's day at the Capitol, allowing their voices to be heard!
Each year, ten $1,000 educational scholarships are awarded to students in MN or ND.
