A message to our community

Our Moment to Mourn George Floyd; A Commitment to Racial Equity

Outdoor memorial with people and flowers

We are heartbroken over the senseless, horrific murder of George Floyd. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and communities.

Although our cities and states are strong, we know that systemic racism is persisting and ingrained in our American history. The recent events are a painful response to many lives lost to the hands of bigotry. We recognize the racial injustice that our black community continues to face in Minnesota and in the United States of America. We collectively ask how many black lives must end before there is a change? In solidarity with a mourning nation, we declare BLACK LIVES MATTER.

We encourage all people of goodwill to be active with the black community in the fight for racial equality and equal protection under the law. We support all people of goodwill who are protesting aggressive policing and social injustice as well as those working on community healing.

At the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota, we focus on helping people. Our Saint Paul office at the Spruce Tree Building remains safe; many of our Saint Paul Midway neighbors have not been as fortunate. We are committed to supporting the Saint Paul community that we have called home for many years.

Together, we mourn George Floyd and others lost. And together, we will heal. Black Lives Matter.

Thank you,
