Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council was developed in 2008 to bring together a group of youth affected by epilepsy and provide an outlet for them to not only have input on current Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota youth programs but also to work within their own communities and the public at large to help spread epilepsy education and awareness.
Our hope is that the council, as it changes and grows each year, will help bring much needed focus and attention to seizures and epilepsy.
This unique group is made up of young leaders, ages 14-19, who will participate in various activities that will help promote leadership, team work, community involvement, and service- learning. The Youth Council works closely with the Youth Development Manager on its programming and other youth related projects. This council brings a meaningful perspective to our work.
This program is not designed for all youth affected by seizures like many of our other youth programs. Below you will read the criteria that are to be considered when applying for this program. After all applications are in, a committee will review the applications and select which youth would not only gain the most from this program but also identify what they can bring into the program itself.
Requirements:
- Age between 14-19 years
- Positive attitude within the teaching of others, community involvement, service learning, and the desire to spread awareness of epilepsy (ability to openly speak about having seizures)
- Commitment to serve on the council for 1 year – monthly meetings and events throughout
- Demonstrated leadership within the epilepsy community
- Reliable transportation to and from meetings and events throughout the year
