The Shining Star Program
We think all youth with epilepsy are special – in fact we think they are Shining Stars! The Shining Star program recognizes all youth with epilepsy, making them feel special and connecting them with other youth with epilepsy across the state of MN and Eastern North Dakota. Many times children with epilepsy can feel isolated or alone...the Shining Star program shows them that they are not alone - they are a Shining Star. There are more than 260 Shining Stars in our program.
There is no cost to be a Shining Star and all youth ages 18 and under are welcome to join. Just complete the registration, attach a current photo, and tell us a little about yourself, your talents, your hobbies, your epilepsy – and we’ll help you shine.
Shining Stars receive:
• A star medallion
• Program Certificate
• A quarterly newsletter especially designed for Shining Stars and their families
• Special invitations to Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota events
• BEST OF ALL – opportunities to connect and meet other Shining Stars and
their families

Winning Kid
The Winning Kid program is designed to spotlight a special child with epilepsy and provide them with the forum and opportunity to represent all youth affected by seizures.
In addition to spreading epilepsy awareness, the Winning Kid will attend events, get involved with their school and community, and commit to getting the word out about seizures.
The Winning Kid should possess the ability to share their story and experience with seizures openly and have the determination that by doing so will in turn help other children.
The following is a list of some of the larger events the Winning Kid will be asked to participate in:
- Annual Shining Star Event
- Annual Twins Event
- Annual Light up the Night Event
- Camp Oz
- Stroll for Epilepsy
The Winning Kid will also be nominated by the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota to attend the Kids Speak Up! Program in Washington, D.C. where they speak to their representatives about epilepsy related issues on Capitol Hill.
