Elam Baer & Janis Clay Educational Scholarship

The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota is pleased to offer a Scholarship Program for students. This program has been made possible through the generosity of Elam Baer and Janis Clay. The Elam Baer & Janis Clay Educational Scholarship Fund will award ten $1000 scholarships each year for the next five years. The first ten scholarships were awarded in August 2006.

The vision behind this initiative is that recipients of the Elam Baer & Janis Clay Educational Scholarships should be students who have shown courage in dealing with epilepsy and seizures, commitment to their education, and perseverance in eliminating the obstacles that epilepsy and seizures may present.

April Schmitz Memorial Scholarship

April Schmitz passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at her home from a seizure. April loved many activities including softball, cheerleading, basketball, dancing, ice skating, camping, going to dirt track racing with her dad, and taking saunas at her grandparents' farm. She was a volunteer for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota. April also had a love for children, and the word "can't" was not in her vocabulary as she struggled with her epilepsy.

It is in April's memory that her family and friends have established this scholarship - so that her memory and spirit will live on....
