New Resources for Veterans

Posted by

I wanted to share the good news that EFMN has a new resource for veterans!  MOVES (Minnesota Outreach for Veterans with Epilepsy and Seizures) delivers epilepsy awareness and education to veterans and their families.

Did you know that traumatic brain injury is a common injury for active duty service people?  Post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) is a seizure disorder caused by head trauma and it’s estimated that up to 169,000 service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan will develop PTE.  Education is critical!

Lisa Riley, a volunteer educator for MOVES, is conducting this FREE training and has a very personal connection to epilepsy and the military.  Lisa lost her son, Jordan, to Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) in 2012 and has become a passionate advocate for veterans.  Watch Lisa’s story.

I’d also encourage you to visit our friends at the MN Brain Injury Alliance.  Here is a list of classes, and a wealth of information specifically for veterans that they offer.  My colleague, Executive Director David King, is passionate for his organization’s mission to raise awareness and enhance the quality of life for all people affected by brain injury.  We are working together to raise awareness and share resources.

Schedule a free training with Lisa today, or contact her about the MOVES program at lriley@efmn.org or 651.287.2328.  Also, visit EFMN’s veterans outreach page for additional information.
